Bailes Ferrer was founded in 1995 by Damaris Ferrer as a way to bring the art of Flamenco music and dance to Broward County, Florida. The following year the company premiered its first concert with the assistance of a grant from the Broward Cultural Affairs Council. Currently the company participates in numerous festivals and concerts throughout South Florida. Throughout the past eight years, Bailes Ferrer has not only presented Flamenco but has been successful in creating multi-cultural works with local Broward artists combining the art of Flamenco with Classical, Middle Eastern and jazz disciplines. Collaborations with other artists have helped to build a reputation in the community as a company that presents multi-cultural and diverse concerts at a high professional level. Bailes Ferrer’s educational programs, which are presented in a lecture format, have been presented in libraries and schools. These programs allow the company to demonstrate and explain the origins of Flamenco and teach its technical aspects. The uniqueness of such culturally diverse programming has yet to be duplicated by other arts organizations. Classes are offered for children and adults ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Workshops and master classes are available throughout the year allowing viewers to develop a better understanding of the art form. Most recently, the company has been invited on tour to Puerto Rico and is expanding its performance venues to include Miami-Dade County.
