Welcome to Flamenco in the Sun 2010!
Now in its eighth year, Flamenco in the Sun brings audiences a variety of Flamenco inspired events that are sure to delight.
The Festival will open on July 17 at the 1310 Gallery artist lofts,
featuring contemporary Flamenco photography by Sharon
Swift.
On July 22 join us for the Flamenco Party of the Summer at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, with live music,
tapas, wine and a Sevillanas Dance Contest! On July 23, all
those curious about Flamenco dance can take a 101 workshop,“Flamenco for Dummies”, at the University Center for the
Performing Arts; and on Saturday, July 24 everyone can head
over to Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center for a Gypsy
double feature – “Los Tarantos” and “Gypsy Caravan.”
After the movies, you can head over to La Barraca for a
complimentary glass of Sangria.
And, back by popular demand, the Festival will also include two
shows of Café Cantante on July 25, featuring local and guest
Flamenco artists at the Parker Playhouse. This year, the Festival
will also bring back an exhibit of Flamenco stories told through
photographs and vintage Flamenco costumes at the Historic
New River Inn. The exhibit opens on July 20 and runs through
August 2. Flamenco in the Sun will close on July 31 and Aug 1
with the grand finale concert “Inspiracion Flamenca” at the
Amaturo Theater, featuring Antonio Granjero, Jorge
Robledo, Jose Junco, and the Muse that inspires them.
This year, we continue our ongoing collaboration with the
Broward Center for the Performing Arts bringing you a week of
exciting master classes from July 26-30, by Antonio Granjero
as well as our weeklong children’s program with Damaris Ferrer
and Poala Escobar.
As always, this program would not be possible without our
many sponsors. This year’s program is brought to you,
in part, by the Broward Cultural Affairs Council, Riverwalk A&E,
the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the University
Center for the Performing Arts, Art and Culture Center
of Hollywood, and One Bal Harbour. Through their
continued commitment to the arts in South Florida and the
support of our fans of Flamenco, we are able to bring you
Flamenco in the Sun 2010.
Thank you,
Damaris Ferrer
